Selena Gomez was less than popular, as she has revealed in a new interview to dailymail. The 19-year-old star said she never had very many friends during her student days.

She said: 'I was never the popular kid at school. I had two friends, but I just sat at the back of the room and got on with my work. 'School is such an awkward time in your life. I was never confident in school.' And Selena credits the fact that her cousin was the captain of the cheerleading team at school as the reason that she wasn't bullied. She added: 'Nobody picked on me because my cousin was one of the popular gang. 

Since leaving school Selena has made a huge success for herself both as a singer and actress on Wizards of Waverly Place, Selena also said that while she might be dating one of the world's biggest heartthrobs now, she was never particularly lucky in love at school.

She said: 'I never went out with guys at school. I had a crush on a guy, but I never told him about it. I did the thing that a lot of girls do: I avoided him! 'You need that self confidence if you want to chat to the guy you like. If you’re confident with yourself, and you’re okay with that, then you should go for it.'

Former Wizards of Waverly Place star Selena also took the opportunity in the interview to talk about how she deals with negative criticism. She said: 'There’s a lot of rejection in this industry and it’s tough. There are also a lot of obstacles that you have to go through and it can be really exhausting. But if you love it, then that’s all that matters. 'You’ve got to go for it. I still have people trying to bring me down, but I’m happy because I love what I do. Ignore the cruel jibes and stick with the nice people.'

Selena added: 'I’m lucky because I have a lot of support from my family and friends. I have so many amazing things in my life. 'I have a healthy, loving family and I have amazing fans. That’s all that matters to me. I try my best to not dwell on the bad stuff. Focus on the positive.'

Selena Gomez is replacing her fellow former Disney star pal in the animated flick, Hotel Transylvania according to Sandler's rep.

In the movie, Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) sets up a resort to house all of the classic monsters including Frankenstein (Kevin James), the Bride of Frankenstein (Fran Drescher), the Invisible Man (David Spade), Quasimodo (David Koechner), Murray the Mummy (Cee Lo Green), and a couple of werewolves (Steve Buscemi and Molly Shannon). Problems arise, however, when a human boy discovers the hotel and falls in love with Mavis. 

Hotel Transylvania also stars SNL's Andy Samberg, Cee Lo Green and Kevin James and will reportedly be released in September. Selena will soon be shooting Spring Breakers in Florida. The edgy flick, about a group of co-eds partying it up while on Spring Break, costars James Franco and Vanessa Hudgens. 

Earlier E! reported that Miley Cyrus, who was attached to play Mavis in the Sony Pictures Animation film, has been forced to exit the project and now it has been reported that Selena Gomez has been brought on to take her place. When asked for comment about why Cyrus had to neg on her deal, the studio replied with no comment.

There have been rumors that Disney Channel might make another movie based on its hit series — and according to HollywoodLife.com the next film is SO close to being made!

HollywoodLife.com spoke with Maria Canals-Barrera, who played Selena Gomez‘s mom on the hit show, at the NYC premiere of Thin Ice hosted by The Cinema Society & Grey Goose on Feb. 6. Maria told us that although the incredibly successful show came to an end after just four seasons this past January, there could be more coming your way!

“I would love for there to be another film, and I know there’s a script that is ready to go,” Maria told us exclusively. “But I think it depends on the availability and desire of some of the other cast members. I, by the way, have the availability and the desire! If I don’t [have the time]… I’ll make it happen.”

This is amazing news, we would love to see Selena, Maria, Jake T. Austin and David Henrie join forces again. We just hope Selena isn’t too busy touring with her band to break away and do some filming!

Wizards of Waverly Place received a nomination for an award in the NAACP Image Awards.

The hit Disney Channel show is up for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.  The writers Vince Cheung and Ben Montanio are the ones to receive the award if they win for their writing on the Wizards Vs Angels episodes.  NAACP is the accolade presented by the American National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to award outstanding people of color in film, television, music and literature.  The 35 categories of Image Awards are voted on by members of the NAACP. There are also honorary awards, including the President’s Award, the Chairman’s Award, Entertainer of the Year and The Image Award Hall of Fame.
